Class Description

This level is the starting point for swimmers to become familiar with the water. This is geared towards swimmers who are not comfortable putting their face in the water.

Requirements to join level

Must be able to:

  • Sit independently without a parent or guardian in the water
  • Listen and follow directions
Focus: Submersion and Air Recovery
Learning Objectives
  1. Ask permission to get in the water
  2. Change direction in chest deep water
  3. Blow bubbles for 5 seconds
  4. Bob 5 times exchanging air
  5. Kick on front and back for 10 ft with flotation
  6. Front and Back Float for 5 seconds
  7. Roll over from front to back float with support
  8. Alternating arm and kicking action with support (Doggy Paddle)
  9. Retrieve an object from depth of two feet
  10. Front streamline with kick for 5 feet
  11. Jump into water over head and recovery safely
Safety Skill: Always ask permission before getting into the water
Exit Skill: Enter water from stairs, front float, recover to standing, float on back, recover to standing position, exit water utilizing stairs.
